Louisville’s Gas Line Plumbers

Gas Lines Done to Code, Tested Before We Leave

Gas piping is the one plumbing job where a shortcut can hurt someone. Every gas line we install or repair is sized for the appliances on it, run in black iron or CSST where code allows, pressure-tested with a gauge, and inspected where Louisville requires it. The permit is part of the job, not an extra.

Most of our gas work is adding a line: a gas range replacing an electric one, a dryer hookup in a new laundry room, a fireplace insert, an outdoor grill or fire pit. A simple appliance hookup from an existing line starts around $200–$500; a longer run is quoted after we walk it with you, and the number does not change once you approve it.

If you smell gas, do not call us first. Leave the house without touching lights or switches, then call 911 and LG&E from outside. Once the utility has made the area safe, call us at (502) 402-9967 to find and fix the leak. What to do if you smell gas has the full checklist.

What We Do

Gas Line Services We Offer in Louisville, KY

From a single appliance hookup to a full repipe — permitted, pressure-tested, and priced before we start.

Gas Leak Detection & Repair

Once the utility has made the house safe, we find the leak with electronic detection and a soap test, repair or replace the failed section, and pressure-test the whole line before gas goes back on.

  • Electronic leak detection
  • Fitting, valve and pipe repair
  • Whole-line pressure test after
  • Corroded sections replaced, not patched
  • Same-day, Monday–Friday

New Gas Line Installation

A gas range, a dryer, a fireplace, a grill, a pool heater or a generator each need a properly sized line. We run it in black iron or CSST, size it for every appliance on the branch, and pull the permit.

  • Sized for total appliance load
  • Black iron or CSST to code
  • Permit and inspection included
  • Shut-off valve at every appliance
  • Appliance hookups from $200–$500

Gas Appliance Hookup

New range, dryer, water heater or fireplace insert? We connect it with the right flex connector and shut-off, check for leaks at every joint, and light it to confirm the burner runs clean.

  • Ranges, dryers, water heaters, fireplaces
  • New flex connector and shut-off valve
  • Soap-tested at every joint
  • Burner lit and checked
  • Old connector removed

Electric-to-Gas Conversion

Switching an electric range or dryer to gas means a new branch line, a properly sized meter check, and a permit. We handle all three and coordinate the appliance delivery with your schedule.

  • Branch line from the existing supply
  • Meter capacity checked with LG&E
  • Permit pulled, inspection passed
  • Range and dryer conversions
  • Fire pits and outdoor kitchens

Pressure Testing & Inspection

Selling the house, closing a permit, or just want to know the line is sound? We pressure-test the system with a gauge, document the result, and fix anything that fails.

  • Gauge pressure test, documented
  • Home-sale and permit-closing tests
  • Recommended every 2–3 years
  • Written report you can hand over
  • Repairs quoted if it fails

Gas Line Replacement & Repipe

Old galvanized or corroded steel gas pipe, flexible copper, or an unpermitted run someone left behind: we replace it with code-compliant piping, test it, and leave the house with a clean inspection.

  • Galvanized and corroded steel replaced
  • Unpermitted work brought to code
  • Whole-house or single-branch
  • Inspection passed before we leave
  • Quoted after a walk-through

If You Smell Gas

What to Do Before You Call Us

A gas leak is a utility and fire-department emergency first, a plumbing job second. Do these four things in order.

1

Get everyone out

Do not flip a light switch, unplug anything, or start a car in the garage. A spark is all it takes. Leave the door open behind you.

2

Call 911 and LG&E from outside

The utility shuts the gas off at the meter and checks the house. This is free and it is their job, day or night.

3

Wait for the all-clear

Nobody goes back in until the utility says the air is safe. If the meter is locked off, that is normal.

4

Then call Golden Plumbing

With the house safe, we find the leak, repair it, pressure-test the line and get the utility to restore service. Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 6 PM.

Repair or Replace?

Should You Repair the Gas Line or Replace It?

We will always give you an honest recommendation. Here is the guide we use ourselves.

Repair Makes Sense When...

  • The leak is at one fitting, valve or connector
  • The pipe is black iron or CSST in good condition
  • A pressure test passes after the one repair
  • The line was permitted and sized correctly
  • It is the first problem the line has had
  • The run is accessible and short

Replacement Makes Sense When...

  • The pipe is old galvanized, flexible copper or unknown
  • Rust or scale shows on more than one section
  • The pressure test fails in more than one place
  • The line was never permitted or is undersized
  • You are adding appliances the line cannot carry
  • A buried line is leaking into the yard

FAQ

Gas Line Questions — Answered

What should I do if I smell gas?
Leave the house immediately without turning lights or appliances on or off. Call 911 and LG&E from outside; the utility shuts the gas off and checks the house at no charge. Once the area is cleared, call Golden Plumbing at (502) 402-9967 to find and repair the leak and get service restored. We are not the first call for an active leak — the fire department and the utility are.
Are your plumbers licensed for gas line work?
Yes. Gas piping in Kentucky requires specific licensing beyond a plumbing license, and every Golden Plumbing technician who works on gas holds it. We pull the permit for every new line and pass the inspection before the job is done.
How much does gas line installation cost in Louisville?
A simple appliance hookup from an existing line starts around $200–$500. A new branch line for a range, dryer, fireplace or grill depends on the length of the run, the material, and whether the meter has capacity for the added load; we quote it after walking it with you, and the number you approve is the number you pay.
Can you convert my range or dryer from electric to gas?
Yes. We run a properly sized branch line from your existing supply, confirm with LG&E that the meter can carry the added load, pull the permit, and hook the appliance up. If the house has no gas service at all, the utility installs the service line and meter first, then we take it from there.
How often should gas lines be inspected?
Every two to three years is a sound interval for a pressure test, and immediately if you smell gas, hear hissing near a line, see dead vegetation over a buried run, or notice rust on exposed pipe. We also test before a home sale and document the result for the buyer.
What kind of pipe do you use for gas?
Black iron for exposed and long runs, and CSST (corrugated stainless steel tubing) where code allows and the route makes it the better choice, always bonded to ground. We replace old galvanized pipe and flexible copper when we find it, because neither meets current code for gas.
When can you get here?
We book arrival windows of 8 AM to 1 PM or 1 PM to 6 PM, Monday through Friday, and same-day appointments are usually available for a leak repair once the utility has cleared the house. After 6 PM or on a weekend, book online or leave a message and we call you first thing the next business morning. An active gas smell is always a 911 and LG&E call first.
